Tuesday, August 21: New International Student Move-In Day

  • New International Student Check-In & Residence Hall Move-In (10:00 AM – 8:00 PM)

Wednesday, August 22: NISSO Day 1

  • Check-In: Day 1 (9:00-9:30 AM)
  • Welcome to NISSO & Breakfast (9:30-10:30 AM)
  • Information Fair (10:30 AM-12:00 PM)
  • Off-Campus Shopping Trip & Lunch (12:00-3:30 PM)
  • Dinner @ Frank Dining Hall (5:00-6:30 PM)
  • Evening Activities

Thursday, August 23: NISSO Day 2

  • Breakfast @ Collins Dining Hall (7:30-9:00 AM)
  • Check-In: Day 2 (9:30-10:00 AM)

Friday, August 24: NISSO Day 3

  • Lunch @ McConnell Dining Hall (12:00-1:30 PM)
  • Afternoon Sessions (1:30-4:00 PM)
  • Campus Tours (4:00-5:00 PM)
  • NISSO Closing Celebration & Dinner (5:00-6:30 PM)

NISSO participants are expected to live on campus throughout the duration and to be present during activities listed above (unless marked as optional). We advise NISSO participants to avoid making personal appointments between August 22 and August 24.

Please note that the information listed above is subject to change over the summer.


Move-In Day

All undergraduate students attending NISSO are required to move into their residence halls on Tuesday, August 21, and are expected to stay on campus throughout NISSO. Make sure to check in at International Place (390 East Ninth Street, Claremont, CA 91711) to pick up your room key.

If you signed up for our Airport Pickup Service, make sure you have sent your flight itinerary in to International Place via email by July 20 .

Parent & Family Participation

All accompanying international parents and families are invited to participate in special programming, including the International Parent & Family Orientation Session on August 22. NISSO Leaders

Our 25 NISSO Leaders, which you may have already met via email, are current Claremont Colleges students who are here to support you with everything from moving into your room to adjusting to life on campus. Throughout NISSO, you will spend time with your “NISSO+” group, such as daily breakfasts, so that you can start to get to know your group members.

Sessions

Morning and evening sessions will cover the following themes and more:

  • What it means to “maintain immigration status” for students with the F and J visas
  • Resources on campus for international students
  • Third/Cross Culture Kid experiences
  • Strategies and support for adjusting to life in Claremont and the US
  • Life at “the 5Cs” and how to get involved on campus
  • Being successful academically at a US college
  • Internships and employment in the US

Evening Activities & Campus Tours

NISSO participants will have the opportunity to choose between five evening activities on NISSO Day 1 (August 22).

Activities will include:

  • Claremont Village Walking Tour
  • Sports: Soccer or Volleyball
  • Crafts Night
  • Karaoke
  • Movie Night

Optional campus tours will be scheduled throughout NISSO. Stay tuned to learn how to sign up for your preferred evening activity!


Post-NISSO Schedule

Note that, in addition to the New International Student and Scholar Orientation (NISSO), each of The Claremont Colleges hosts mandatory college-specific orientation programs and information for new students. Contact your College’s Dean of Students Office for more information, or click on the link to your college below.
