Monday, August 20: KGI International Student Orientation, Day 1

Location: KGI Building 535, Room 152

What to Expect: Day 1 will give students an opportunity to form friendships while learning about succeeding at KGI. Topics will include: understanding the U.S. healthcare system and student insurance, succeeding in the KGI classroom, and financial aid. Current students and/or alumni will join us to talk about their experiences.

Students joining the optional Claremont Village Tour and Happy Hour led by CFIS will be introduced to nearby restaurants and shops. We will also point out local banks to ensure students know where to go to set up accounts. The tour takes place on sidewalks and surface streets so comfortable shoes are encouraged; students with mobility issues should contact the Office of International Students and Scholars in advance to make arrangements to join the tour.

Lunch will be provided.

What to Bring: Light jacket to wear inside the room. Layers are encouraged as the tour will take place outside and summer nights can be quite warm.

Tuesday, August 21: KGI International Student Orientation, Day 2

Location: Claremont Graduate University, Burkle 24

Times: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; check-in appointments to follow at 4:15 p.m. at KGI

Dress Code: Casual, with comfortable walking shoes

What to Expect: Day 2 will acquaint students with their immigration rules and responsibilities and will connect them with resources at The Claremont Colleges. This will include a tour of some of the other campuses. Guest speakers from International Place of The Claremont Colleges, Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services, and the EmPOWER Center will present on topics such as: international support services across The Claremont Colleges, academic life in the USA, cultural adjustment, and diversity and inclusion.

The day includes a great deal of walking, thus comfortable shoes and light clothing are encouraged; students with mobility issues should contact the Office of International Students and Scholars well in advance to make sure assistance can be provided.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided. International check-in appointments will be conducted after the conclusion of orientation activities.

What to Bring: Passport, local address information, emergency contact information, Student Health Services form (if not submitted directly), and light jacket to wear inside the room. Cool clothes are encouraged as the tour will take place outside and summer days can be quite warm.
