Title: Graphic Design and Social Media Specialist
Description: International Place of The Claremont Colleges, a shared services office serving The Claremont Colleges, is seeking a student to specialize in the creation and development of marketing and publicity for International Place events and programs.
Job Purpose: Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Graphic Design and Social Media Specialist is responsible for the creation and development of International Place’s marketing and publicity, including maintaining social media accounts, printed materials, website management, generating a weekly e-mail newsletter, and other similar projects.
Core Duties:
  • Works together with International Place staff on determining digital and printed publicity needs of International Place
  • Works together with Assistant Director to strategize the use of digital and printed media to advertise International Place events
  • Creates digital and printed media to advertise International Place programming
  • Posts printed media around The Claremont Colleges
  • Maintains International Place social media accounts, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Maintains International Place events on Digital Bulletin Boards across The Claremont Consortium
Qualifications: Education & Experience:

  • Currently a student at one of The Claremont Colleges
  • Experience with the International Student community at The Claremont Colleges
  • Familiarity with each of The Claremont Colleges and the Consortium model.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Background in art and design
  • Strong knowledge of and demonstrated ability using Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, and WordPress
  • Strong writing skills and keen attention to detail
  • Use of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter


  • Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised
  • Understanding and shared vision of the role of I-Place at The Claremont Colleges.
  • Demonstrates discretion and judgment (especially in regards to social media posts)
  • Love of design and visual communication

Work Conditions: This work can be performed off-site, but completion of work must adhere to the deadlines set forth by International Place.  Compensation for this position will be hourly and hours will be limited to 8 hours per week or roughly 32 hours per month. This is a semester-long position, beginning in Fall 2019, with the possibility of extending to Spring 2020 upon semesterly review.
