New International Student and Scholar Orientation (NISSO)

NISSO logo

International Place is responsible for planning and facilitating the New International Student and Scholar Orientation program, also known as NISSO, for incoming international students at Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, Pomona, and Scripps campuses.

NISSO is an opportunity for incoming international students to both learn about the U.S. college experience and begin to meet others in the Claremont international community. NISSO covers important topics related to student visa requirements, succeeding in the U.S. classroom, accessing healthcare in the US, social life on campus, and more.

NISSO FALL 2020 INFORMATION

In response to the various changes made to the fall semester across the Claremont Colleges Consortium, the NISSO Fall 2020 program has been adapted to occur primarily through online formats.

Although we won’t be meeting you in person during NISSO this year, we will do our best to ensure that you feel welcomed by the international community here in Claremont, and that you receive the most important information as you transition to college in the US.

Through “live” presentations on Zoom, social media content, email, and more, new international students will have opportunities to connect with campus staff, faculty, other new international students, and with returning international students (NISSO Leaders) this summer.  Until we are able to meet in person, we hope that you will engage with us via our online NISSO Fall 2020 program!

NISSO Recordings & Resources

Thank you to everyone who was able to join and participate in our NISSO sessions this summer. Our staff hope that you took away helpful information, and feel better prepared to begin your time as an international student in Claremont. If you were unable to attend any NISSO presentations or would like to revisit some of them, don’t worry! We are in the process of making session recordings as well as a number of other I-Place staff and NISSO Leader-created resources available to our new students. We hope you find these resources helpful throughout your first year and beyond.

Friday, July 31, 7:00 AM-8:00 AM Pacific Time

There will also be an open Q&A portion during the second half of the chat where you can ask any questions you have (questions don’t have to be related to class registration, plus Leaders might throw in some online games and bonding here and there!). The NISSO Leaders look forward to chatting with you!

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT LIFE
