New International Student and Scholar Orientation (NISSO)

NISSO logo

International Place is responsible for planning and facilitating the New International Student and Scholar Orientation program, also known as NISSO, which will be attended by incoming students at Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, Pomona, and Scripps campuses. NISSO is designed for incoming students who have lived outside of the U.S. for most or all of their lives.

NISSO is an opportunity for incoming international students to both learn about the U.S. college experience and begin to meet others in the Claremont international community. NISSO will cover important topics related to student visa requirements, succeeding in the U.S. classroom, accessing healthcare in the US, social life on campus, and more. During this time when we are required to be physically distanced from one another, we believe that connecting to others with shared international experiences is especially important.

Due to the uncertainty of the Fall 2020 semester, and to avoid the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus, we will be delivering the NISSO program primarily through online platforms this summer. We are working on finalizing the NISSO schedule and will share a more information on registration soon.

The registration form will be shared here as it becomes available.

Complimentary Airport Pickup Service

International Place offers optional, complimentary transportation from Los Angeles (LAX) and Ontario (ONT) international airports to Claremont for new students or scholars who will be attending NISSO.

Transportation should be requested in advance via the Fall 2020 NISSO Registration Form. Individuals are able to request transportation ahead of time and will be asked to submit their travel itineraries closer to the scheduled arrival date.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.

International recognizes that many students and scholars will arrive on campus with family and that orientation is a special time for family members as well.
